The best turkey sandwich in San Francisco, but the hot take is to order it with AVOCADO & CRANBERRY SAUCE. Yes, I said it. Trust it, try it, then get back to me on it This market also always has the absolute best service and staff, along with a wide variety of produce, pantry, and wine. Great for locals and tourists alike!

Arguello Market makes the best turkey sandwiches I've ever had. Forget sliced packaged meat - they roast whole turkeys here each day and slice off meat to use in sandwiches. I've seen some reviews mentioning the turkey is dry, but adding cranberry sauce or avocado (or both) will counteract that. If you have to choose one, I would go with cranberry sauce over avocado - it gives a nice sweetness to the sandwich. You won't find any house-made secret sauce or fancy ingredients like you would at some other sandwich spots in the city, but sometimes simple is better. Dutch crunch, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mayo, Dijon, cranberry sauce, and fresh roasted turkey is all you need for the world's best turkey sandwich. Price was $12.95 +$1.50 for cranberry sauce on UberEats, which might be slightly on the pricey side without cheese, but considering it's the best turkey sandwich in the world, it's a small price to pay. It can get busy around lunchtime, especially on weekends, so I would recommend ordering ahead, either via an app like UberEats or by calling. This time, I ordered ahead via UberEats pickup and it was ready within 10 minutes of placing the order. However, I have been quoted a 30 minute wait time am during lunch on weekends, so keep that in mind if you order during a busier time.

Oh my gosh, let me tell you about this legendary turkey sandwich I had. I am just bursting with excitement! Picture this: the most magnificent market with a deli that is out of this world. As soon as you walk in, your senses are overwhelmed with the delightful aroma of freshly roasted turkey, oh how it invigorates your appetite! I approached the counter with sheer enthusiasm, and the friendly deli staff greeted me with warm smiles. I knew I was about to embark on a sandwich journey of epic proportions. They offered other meats, but my heart was set on the turkey. It called to me, beckoning with promises of a divine and exceptional taste experience. As I watched them assemble my masterpiece of a sandwich, I couldn't help but salivate with anticipation. They generously piled freshly sliced turkey onto a bed of the softest, most perfectly toasted bread. The turkey glistened with succulent juices, hinting at the explosion of flavor it held within. But the greatness didn't stop there. They added crispy, smoky bacon for an extra layer of deliciousness. Oh, what a delightful combination of textures! And to top it off, they layered on a medley of fresh, crunchy lettuce and juicy tomatoes. As they handed me the sandwich, my hands trembled with excitement. I carefully took my first bite, and my taste buds erupted in pure ecstasy. The flavors danced in perfect harmony, each ingredient complementing the other in the most delicious way. The turkey was tender and flavorful, perfectly balanced with the smoky bacon. The lettuce and tomatoes provided a refreshing crunch that completed the whole experience. I couldn't contain my joy. I devoured the sandwich with fervor, savoring every single bite as if it were my last. There, in that moment, I knew that I had discovered the greatest turkey sandwich in the world. It was a culinary masterpiece, a work of art that deserved to be celebrated. I left the deli with a glow in my heart and a smile on my face. I knew that I had just experienced something truly extraordinary. That turkey sandwich was more than just a meal; it was a memory that would forever be etched in my taste buds. And so, my dear friend, I encourage you to venture into the world and seek out your own legendary turkey sandwich. It may take some time, but when you find it, oh, it will be the most magical culinary experience of your life. Happy hunting!

It's been over eight years since I learned about this place. A recent newspaper article (https://www.sfgate.com/food/article/Arguello-Market-world-famous-turkey-sandwich-in-SF-17060002.php) brought me back to confirm or reaffirm what the author described. Coming in on a pre-Christmas Wednesday morning, I parked at one of the green zone spaces (ten minutes) right in front of the market at around 9:30 am. I walked to the deli counter and waited as the gentleman was working in the back. A minute or so later, he saw me and took my order. My friend and I shared a turkey sandwich on sourdough, everything but mayo (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=uBZvx4kDl356Wn3wSVtFGA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); it was as I remember filling wise with the fresh roasted turkey is the star of the show. In fact, you'll see a couple being prepped as you wait (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=n9D7NCNVAaYluvWZkOwJBw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). A half sandwich was plenty, especially when, while waiting, I saw two salads in the cold case that had my name on them. I asked for a half pint each of the creole potato salad and macaroni salad (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=JnqRcGtVUwrm0fmf5dt-PA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). The mac salad was your standard stuff with a not-to-heavy amount of mayo and pimentos being the dominant flavors. The creole potato is deceiving as it looks like an ordinary potato salad but, after my first bite, my lips and eyes perked up from the hint of spiciness. I traded bites of these two with bites of my sandwich for lunch. I finished the half sandwich but only had about a third of each of the salads in satisfying my hunger pangs. After getting my items, I went to the grocery cashier area and paid for my items. The cashier wore a t-shirt touting their famed sandwich and rightly so. I'm upping my rating here to four stars as I definitely enjoyed this more than I did the first time. Perhaps it was the bread (sourdough versus Dutch Crunch). Perhaps it was from holding the mayo. In any case, I would get this again along with that creole potato salad.

The little sandwiches here are not bad. There's a wide selection of beer and wine as well as groceries. We like Arguello Super Market because it is conveniently located on the bike route we take from the Richmond to Golden Gate Park. I had their roast beef sandwich on Dutch crunch with Swiss $13.45 and a 19oz IPA $3.25. They have outside tables to enjoy the food. This is cool for cyclists because we like to keep an eye on our bicycles. Indoor dining means locking the bicycles up. Staff is fast and friendly.

Summary: A well constructed sandwich in a quiet food mart. It overhypes the turkey, but still has some pieces worth buying on the menu. The sandwich was about $12 which is a lot for a sandwich in reality, but for the convenience and quality, you likely won't be disappointed. Good: I overall enjoyed the roast beef sandwich - very classic and clean construction. I really really loved the dijon mustard; tied the whole sandwich together. I think if they lean into more sauces, it would really be amazing (mayo, dijon) Bad: For as hyped as the turkey is, I was sorely disappointed by the bite I took of my friend's. I always fear that turkey ends up dry, and this sandwich confirmed my fears. I liked the overall texture of the Dutch Crunch, but it was just a tad too thick to be comfortable as a sandwich. Ugly: It cost like $1-2 for a slice of cheese on the sandwich :(
